Andrew Harvey

Harvey_Andrew_detailAndrew Harvey is Founding Director of the Institute of Sacred Activism. The Institute supports global peace and sustainability by inviting concerned individuals to become inspired and practical agents of institutional and systemic change. Sacred Activism is a transforming force, fusing spiritual knowledge, wisdom, courage, love, and passion with radical action world wide.

In 1984, Harvey began a life-long exploration of Rumi and Sufi mysticism. Harvey has written three books on that subject: The Way of Passion, The Celebration of Rumi, and Perfume of the Desert, an anthology of Sufi mysticism. With Llewellyn Baughn Lee, he founded the Sufi Conferences, which have played a prominent role in uniting Sufis of all persuasions during the past six years.

In 2005, Harvey delivered his vision of the contemporary crisis now confronting us and its potential solution through Sacred Activism. His book, The Hope, received the 2011 Nautilus Silver Award for its influence upon social change. The book is a compelling guide to radical change in the world through Sacred Activism.

Harvey’s latest book, Radical Passion: Sacred Love and Wisdom in Action, is the culmination of his life’s work. It is a manifesto for world transformation through focused action, fusing deep mystical peace with clear radical wisdom. Harvey believes the world must return to the heart-centered ways of the Divine Feminine and the mystics throughout the ages, and must cultivate the nonviolent philosophies of Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, and the Dalai Lama.
